We are currently recommending a number of different small format computers in various configurations. These take a minimum of desktop space, are energy efficient and can run all applications recommended on this site flawlessly.
Some of the computers below such as the Intel NUC or the CompuLab Fitlet are “barebones” meaning you just need to add a couple components (RAM and/or storage) to make a workable system. Other, such as Kangaroo Mobile Desktop or some versions of the Shuttle XPC Nano are complete.
Finally, if you want maximum power in the smallest possible space, consider a self-built Mini-ITX based system such as those described on the Workstations and Servers page.
